detailed itinerary

Your wine tour starts with a 9am departure for your scenic ride from Vienna to the lovely village of Stein, located in the charming Wachau Valley. The ride should take about two hours and along the way, your guide — a renowned Austrian sommelier — will explain to you the rich history, culture and traditions of winemaking in Austria.

Your guide knows all the best vineyards and their owners, so you’ll get insider access at every stop. You’ll learn from the winemakers themselves about the historical significance of the Wachau Valley and why this region produces the best wines in the country.

Once in Wachau, you’ll visit some of the area’s best vineyards. Your first stop will be the famous Johann Donaubaum winery, famous for its juicy, elegant wines. You’ll taste a few of his wines along with some other Wachau labels, all paired with tasty plates of ham and horseradish.

Afterwards, you’ll head for a gourmet lunch of regional dishes at a well-known vineyard, Jamek. This cozy, family-run winery has been around since 1912 and is the perfect place to settle in for a delicious Austrian meal.

After lunch, you’ll be treated to a high-end wine tasting with three Wachau winegrowers, paired with a few more delicious treats, of course, at the iconic Hofmeisterei, which is one of the best restaurants in the Wachau Valley.

Finally, if the weather allows it, we’ll also drive up the mountains to three more upper vineyards for additional tastings paired with a breathtaking view over the valley before heading back to Vienna.
